Addressing the Impact of Vicarious Trauma on the Mental Health Clinician

CE Hours 1

About this course

As part of their job, mental health clinicians are repeatedly exposed to hearing details of trauma and human suffering. This chronic exposure places mental health clinicians at increased risk for developing symptoms of vicarious trauma at some point in their career. In this self-paced course, Dr. Bartlett will deepen mental health clinicians' understanding of vicarious trauma by equipping them with the information to define, identify, and differentiate it from other common symptoms. Clinicians will also learn ways to prevent or reduce the impact of vicarious trauma for themselves and for their organization.

Learning Objectives

  • Define vicarious trauma.
  • Identify symptoms of vicarious trauma.
  • Differentiate symptoms of vicarious trauma from other symptoms commonly experienced by mental health clinicians.
  • Identify the tangible impact of vicarious trauma on the professional and the organization.
  • Identify ways to reduce vicarious trauma at the individual and organizational level.

Learning Levels

  • All levels.

Target Audience

Licensed and pre-licensed mental health clinicians
