Understanding and Treating Moral Injury Among Trauma-Exposed Clients

CE Hours 2.5

About this course

Although moral injury is highly prevalent among trauma-exposed therapy clients, it is not well understood and often goes unaddressed in a clinical setting. In this on-demand video course, Dr. Brooke Bartlett will provide mental health clinicians with foundational information about moral injury among trauma-exposed therapy clients. The course will define moral injury, identify symptoms of moral injury, differentiate moral injury and posttraumatic stress, and discuss the theoretical framework for how moral injury develops. It will also discuss scientifically supported assessment tools for moral injury, and barriers to assessment and identification. Lastly, it will introduce an evidence-based treatment protocol designed to address moral injury called Trauma-Informed Guilt Reduction therapy. In this course, particular emphasis is placed on subpopulations that are chronically exposed to trauma, including first responders, military personnel, and civilians.
